RESEARCH FOCUS

Current projects ... can you help?

Specific Details for:

NE & N SCOTLAND

BEDFORDSHIRE

Any assistance you can offer in the following areas of research would be appreciated.

All information related to aviation in Bedfordshire and North East Scotland is of interest to me [see archive remit], no matter how obscure or apparently insignificant!  Your advice on potential sources - people you may know -  would also be welcome. My contact details are :

 NORTH & NORTH-EAST SCOTLAND
Update: December 2004

Still working through the wartime Operational Records of RAF units based at RAF Dyce, RAF Peterhead, RAF Fraserburgh, RAF Edzell and RAF Montrose [see example records]. To be followed by Banff, Dallachy,  Lossiemouth, and Kinloss / Forres.

The names and locations of all CWWGC aircrew burials in the region have been entered into a database prior to further research to also establish and record the circumstances behind each loss. Also added are the names that appear in the City of Aberdeen Rolls of Honour 1914-1919 & 1939-1945, and Roll of Honour book for 612 (County of Aberdeen) Squadron.

Can you assist the N & NE Scotland record? For example ...

By helping to identify any place where an aircraft is known or thought to have forced landed or crashed in North and North-East Scotland (see approx. area defined in map left), particularly in your locality. It is becoming increasingly important to record these now before this information - which generally cannot be found in the printed records that survive - passes out of living memory.

By providing information about any aviator/airman  - RAF/Fleet Air Arm/Army/Civilian etc. - with a NE Scotland connection, however tenuous the link. As a relation or local resident you may only be able to give a name, but this provides a starting  point. Please give me a call if you are a local historian with an interest in this subject.

By contacting me if you served with local units or have any local flying experience, before, during or after WW2.

Photographs of people or aircraft related to NE Scotland would be particularly welcomed, but please contact me first before sending any originals.

BEDFORDSHIRE
Update: December 2004

Currently researching crew details for a number of local WW2 incidents - some details below.

The names and locations of all CWWGC aircrew burials in the region have been entered into a database prior to further research to also establish and record the circumstances behind each loss. Also added are the names that appear in the Bedford School and Bedford Modern School Rolls of Honour. Currently adding the names of known airmen that appear on the counties war memorials, thanks to Martin Edwards and The Bedfordshire Family History Society  [visit the Bedfordshire War Memorials & Roll of Honour website]

How you could assist the Bedfordshire record:

By helping to identify any place where an aircraft is known or thought to have forced landed or crashed in Bedfordshire (see approx. area defined in map left), particularly in your locality. It is becoming increasingly important to record these now before this information - which generally cannot be found in the printed records that survive - passes out of living memory.

By providing information about any aviator/airman  - RAF/Fleet Air Arm/Army/Civilian etc. - with a Bedford / Bedfordshire connection, however tenuous the link. As a relation or local resident you may only be able to provide a name, but this provides a starting  point. I would be most interested to hear from local historians.

By contacting me if you served with local units or have any local flying experience, before, during or after WW2.

Photographs of people or aircraft related to Bedfordshire would be particularly welcomed, but please contact me first before sending any originals.
